"For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God."

– Romans 8:14

Out of the Fish

Truly I say to you, anyone that seeks first the Kingdom and will of the Almighty God will find life more abundant than in the patterns, desires, and ways of this world.

I wish I could say that that has been the focus since the beginning of my walk with Christ. Unfortunately, I can't say that my life has been a testament to that statement. This life is just too complex for any of us to bear, and if you think you have it under control you are sorely mistaken. Every day we are endlessly bombarded with what this world thinks is important, and what this world holds dear.

It's the money. The expensive clothes. The gigantic house. The beautiful women. The sex. The substances. The notoriety.

These are the things that the world tells us are important, and to be honest, we are the ones that have been convinced to trust and believe that this is what life is all about. And this is in no way me standing atop of my pedestal wagging my finger at those who strive for the items I've listed above, because I am just as guilty, if not more guilty of these earthly desires.

We all want the secure job, the nice home, a well-supplied savings account, and a popularity that lets people know your life is worth something. Well I hate to burst your bubble folks, but we will never accumulate enough material goods to be happy or satisfied. And there is no chance we will ever satisfy the insatiable appetite this world contains.

Sounds like a losing battle right? Well in some aspects, I would have to say yes. But what would you say if I told you there is truth in what I said at the beginning of this post? Feel free to scroll back up and reread what I have written when you return I'm going to break it down for you.

What does it mean to seek first the Kingdom and Will of the Almighty God? Well I can tell you one thing that I have learned first-hand, and that is that there is no possible way you can try and maintain control over your life. First off it is completely kicking God's plan for your life to the curb, meaning that we are not off to a good start. Telling God that you are going to do things your own way and really don't care what He has to say about it is honestly one of the worst things you could do.

Look at Jonah. Jonah decided that he didn't want to go to Nineveh to tell the people to turn from their sin, so he jumped on a boat and peaced-out for anywhere but close to God. Long story short, God swallowed Jonah's plan whole quite literally actually (lame Christian joke, only God can judge me). Inside the belly of that great fish Jonah called out to God and finally gave him control over his life. He wasn't going to run anymore. The rebellious and cowardly Jonah would soon warn the people of Nineveh of the coming destruction, eventually bringing repentance throughout the land.

How long are you going to keep running? Is it really going to take God completely destroying your plans to finally wake you up? It is my hope that it wouldn't have to come to that, but then again we are all stubborn people, me being one of the worst.

God has a plan for your life, get out of the fish.
