"For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God."

– Romans 8:14

No Fear

Fear takes all shapes and forms in our lives. We fear people that may harm us or our families, natural disasters, the future, flying, sickness, death...the list goes on. As human beings with an understanding of how precious life really is, we know that tomorrow is never really guaranteed. Some may dwell on it more than others, but as wars continue throughout the world, as starvation claims the lives of thousands every day, and as mankind suffers under terrible diseases, we can't help but think how long we all really have here on this place we call earth.

Fear binds us. We are slaves to its will and ways. We are controlled by a fear of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We fear our past and the wrong decisions we have made thinking, "What if I had done something different?" We fear today, not knowing what might happen this afternoon, thinking of the decisions we make today and how they can affect the rest of our lives. We fear tomorrow, our futures, what will my life look like five years from now? Ten years from now? Will I have everything I've ever dreamed of? Or will my life be completely different than what I've ever expected?

Fear was created by sin. When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, their eyes were opened to their nakedness and they were afraid, so they hid from God. Adam told God he was afraid because of his nakedness. Their fear actually provoked them to attempt to hide from the Creator, the God of the Universe. To fear is to sin, so let not your heart be troubled by fear.

Fear for my future has always played a very significant role in my life. Just the mere thought of a future career or occupation brings anxiousness and worry because I just simply don't know what God has in store for me. I don't know what His plans are for me, but I do know that He will make good out of my future, I know that He does have a plan.

Christ empowers us with a Spirit that casts out all fear. 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love." At what should be the center of every Christian's life, should be a love that defeats all fear. That love is able to overcome any anxiety, doubt, worry, or distress. We no longer have to fear because Christ has overcome all fear.
